Cook Pirates and Their Connection to Sanji

The Cook Pirates were a pirate crew led by the legendary captain “Red Leg” Zeff. Although Sanji was never an official member of the crew, his life became forever connected to them through a life-changing encounter with Zeff.

As a young boy, Sanji worked as an apprentice cook aboard the passenger ship Orbit. During a raid by the Cook Pirates, a violent storm struck, sinking both ships. Zeff risked his own life to save Sanji, and the two became the only survivors stranded on a barren rock.

While waiting for rescue, Zeff secretly sacrificed his own food supply so Sanji could survive. This selfless act deeply inspired Sanji and shaped his lifelong dream of finding the All Blue, the legendary sea where fish from every ocean gather.

After they were rescued, Zeff retired from piracy and founded the floating restaurant Baratie. There, he raised and trained Sanji, teaching him both exceptional cooking skills and the leg-based fighting style that would later become Sanji’s signature combat technique.
